Puerto Rico is a place of many pleasures: miles of Caribbean coastline, rugged mountains, cities and towns of irresistible charm.

Since the first humans came ashore thousands of years ago, the archipelago of Puerto Rico has been the home of many different cultures. The Taíno Indians, who ruled the Island when the Spaniards arrived, were the last of a series of Amerindian migrations that originated in South and North America. Due to its central geographical position, the Island has always been a cultural crossroads, as well as a strategic port of call for Europeans and North Americans alike.

Old San JuanTravelers who come to Puerto Rico will find that history is alive on the Island. It’s capital, Old San Juan, was declared a National Heritage Foundation Historic Site almost in its entirety. Inside its walled-in precinct, visitors will find 400 years of Spanish rule manifested in the old, colonial style architecture. You will also find a veritable smorgasbord of cultures co-existing peacefully as they have done for hundreds of years. The buildings of Old San Juan and the bustling financial district of Hato Rey, as well as the many towns that dot the east-west Panoramic Highway, are all pages of Island history.

Puerto Rico is home to many natural wonders such as the El Yunque rainforest and Camuy Cave Park. El Yunque, the only tropical forest in the National Forest System, is undeniably one of Puerto Rico’s great natural resources as well as a source of great pride. It is a place where travelers and residents often find themselves enjoying the untamed beauty around them while also enjoying each other’s company. Camuy Cave Park is home to the Rio Camuy Caverns, a 268-acre ecosystem that is part of this hemisphere's most impressive subterranean cave network, carved by the mighty Rio Camuy.

If you ever find a place where the color blue seems
only a day old and water whispers in your ear…

If you ever find a place where nature has more
shades of green than the eye can fathom…

If you ever find a place where one night a year, at midnight, everyone walks into the sea backwards for good luck…

If you ever find a place where the roads are paved
with cobblestone five hundred years old…

You’re not dreaming, you’re in Puerto Rico!
