Climate

New Zealand seasons are the opposite of those in North America. The Kiwis are enjoying the height of their Spring season during October. Overall, expect temperatures throughout your week to range from daytime highs in the low-60's to nighttime lows in the low to mid-40's. There will be a chance of rain during your stay, too ... the South Island experiences approximately 7-9 days of rain on average during October!

For those of you on the optional trip extension to Tahiti, expect temperature ranges a bit higher, from the mid-80's during the day to the low-70's at night. Average rainfall in October ranges from 3-4 inches.

Entry Requirements

All travelers to New Zealand are subject to the Immigration Service's Advance Passenger Screening. Your travel documents (including passports) are checked and validated before you board your flight to New Zealand. These must be valid and up-to-date in order to avoid delays (or to avoid being prevented from boarding your flight). Your passport must be valid for three months beyond your scheduled return date. Visas are not required for stays less than three months in New Zealand.

A valid passport (but no visa) is required for entry into Tahiti.  Your passport must be valid for six months after your scheduled return date.

Note: Whatever form of identification you use, we suggest packing photocopies of your picture and keeping it in a separate location form where you keep your passport or other documents.

Medical Information

Good medical care is available. U.S. medical insurance is not always valid outside the United States, however. Please check with your own insurance company to confirm whether your policy applies overseas, including provision for medical evacuation, and for adequacy of coverage. If you need a doctor, your hotel can recommend one, or you can contact your embassy or consulate.

Make sure you have sufficient prescription medications for your trip.
