The journey between Vancouver, Canada and Anchorage, Alaska, is like no other in the world! Here, along the "Inside Passage", adventure could be right around the next turn in the coastline! Perhaps you'll experience what the natives call "white thunder" ... the mighty crash of a glacier calving into the sea. Or you may watch in awe as humpback whales frolic in the crystal blue waters of their summer home.
We'll make stops at various ports of call along the way ... including the following destinations*
* based on current information ... subject to change as we near our departure dates
Seward - Depending on your trip, either your port of departure or your destination ... Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, and home to the Annual Silver Salmon Derby, the biggest fishing event in Alaska.
College Fjord - Branching from Prince William Sound, this breathtaking fjord harbors 16 tidewater glaciers, all named for the colleges that funded their discovery over 100 years ago on the famous Harriman Expedition of 1899. Taking a turn around the promenade deck, you'll be able to view anywhere from four to six different glaciers at the same time! The spruce forests growing right up to the edge of the ice offer a sense of scale not found anywhere else.
Glacier Bay - One of Alaska's most dramatic sights, the thousand-year old ice cliffs rise above the water in countless shades of white, blue, grey and green. The sight is one you'll remember for the rest of your life, as you witness pieces breaking off and falling into the sea in a spectacle of thunder and splash!
Sitka* - One of southern Alaska's most beautiful cities, Sitka is nestled on the west side of Baranof Island and is flanked by majestic snow-capped mountains on the east, and by the deep blue Pacific Ocean on the west. Sitka is home to 19 attractions listed on the National Register of Historic Places, seven of which are National Historic Landmarks. Perhaps you'll see some of the locals performing the traditional spirited dances rooted in their Russian heritage!
Skagway** - The northernmost port on the Inside Passage, here you'll find the frontier spirit is still alive and well! You'll certainly be able to capture a glimpse of its gold-mine town past in lively saloons or at a rousing, local dancehall revue! We will even be in port long enough to visit its famous Klondike Gold Dredge where you can pan the "pay dirt" that's brought down daily from an active gold claim!
Juneau - Alaska's capital is nested between Gastineau Channel and the towering Mt. Juneau. Step ashore to perhaps shop for gold nuggets in the recently renovated Gold Rush Historic District near downtown ... and be sure not to miss the historic St. Nicholas Russian Church, built over 100 years ago ... or the immense Mendenhall glacier, with its blue ice.
Ketchikan - Well known as the salmon capital of the World, Ketchikan is Alaska's "first city". Its name comes from the native term "Katch Kanna", which roughly translates to "spread wings on a thundering eagle"! It's rightly named, for you're likely to see many bald eagles on waterside perches. If you visit the Eagle Center, you'll even have the chance to see one up close ... while other places you might visit include the Ketchikan Totem Heritage Center with its 33 original totem poles ... or the Creek and Falls area that provide excellent views of the salmon runs that have made the town so famous!
Vancouver - Again, depending on your trip, Vancouver will either be your port of destination or departure. The Port of Vancouver has one of the world's finest natural, deep-water harbors, and ranks #1 in North America in total foreign exports. With over 300 cruise sailings working out of Vancouver, almost 1 million passengers use its facilities every year!
